Morning Briefing: Challenges and the Embarkation of Creativity
On August 29th, the WeConnect 2025 China Tour entered its second day in Chongqing. The day began with a fun Instagram voting challenge.
For the upcoming shooting day (August 30th), five shooting routes with different styles were meticulously planned. The selection of these routes was based on the game scores from the evening of August 28th: Route A (MV-style Storytelling): This route is all about showcasing creative expression and capturing the unique vibe of the city. The editing rhythm will be in perfect sync with the music, creating a visual and auditory feast. Route B (Lifestyle Documentary): Emphasize completeness of content and an authentic, everyday feel with a relaxed tone. Route C (Fun & Creative Shots): This route emphasizes creativity, with contrast, humor, or storytelling as key means of expression. Route D (Cyber Chongqing): Emphasize nightscapes, a sense of technology, and striking visual contrasts in lighting and architecture, with a strong focus on atmosphere. Route E (New Meets Old Cultural Stories): Emphasize the fusion of tradition and modernity, and highlight cultural contrasts through narration and storytelling.
Moreover, based on the game scores from the evening of August 28th, each team received a unique set of resources, including different filming equipment, budgets, and filming assistants. This added a whole new layer of possibilities to the creative process on the filming day.
Jiaotong Teahouse: A Time-Travel Journey through Four Decades, Experience a Feast of Traditional Culture
At noon, the creators entered the Jiaotong Teahouse, a unique space that carries the memories of Chongqing from the 1970s and 1980s. As soon as they entered, it was like taking a step back in time. The wooden roof, gray-black bricks and tiles, mottled walls, long benches, old square tables, and large ceiling fans hanging from the beams—every single detail was a storyteller, filling the air with a distinct sense of the past. Here, the creators, just like native Chongqing folks, nibbled on sunflower seeds, chatted casually, enjoyed the amazing performances, and fully immersed themselves in this authentic atmosphere brimming with the charm of everyday life.
At the Jiaotong Teahouse, the first performance to hit the stage was the amazing Sichuan intangible cultural heritage long-spout teapot pouring show. When the boiling water flowed through the long spout, the temperature was skillfully reduced to the perfect brewing point. This not only effectively stirred the tea leaves but also sped up the release of their delicious flavor. The creators were truly in awe of this practical yet visually stunning experience.
Next up was the Sichuan Opera face-changing performance, often referred to as the “Oriental Magic.” It was an absolutely breathtaking show! The performers changed their facial makeup in the blink of an eye, with lightning-fast speed and flawless precision. This swift, mysterious, and stunning technique fully displayed the one-of-a-kind charm of Sichuan Opera. It gave creators from all over the world a chance to get up close and personal with the profound and rich Chinese traditional culture. The Sichuan Opera Fire-Breathing stunts, which have their roots in ancient Western Shu, were just as awe-inspiring. This unique and thrilling performance was a real visual treat for the creators.
The teahouse also had a super fun tea-tasting game called the Tea Memory Challenge. There were four teapots, each filled with a different type of tea: buckwheat tea, Biluochun tea, Tieguanyin tea, and Pu’er tea. Along with each teapot, there was a high-definition photo of the corresponding tea. The creators tasted each tea, carefully examined the photos, and jotted down the details of the tea. Then, the tea master mixed up the order of the teapots randomly. The creators had to match the tea photos with the right teapots. The winner was the one who did it with the highest accuracy and in the fastest time. This fun game allowed participants to learn more about Chinese tea culture in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Raffles City: Encountering the Beauty of Nature and Urban Beauty
In the afternoon, the creators made their way to the floating forest inside Raffles City Chongqing. This place is like a fairy tale come true, with tall green plants thriving and creating a dreamy, sky-high forest. Sitting by the windows outside the huge glass dome, they were treated to a panoramic view of the fog-shrouded city. The creators felt a unique mix of thrill, excitement, and romance as they gazed down from a height of 250 meters at the spot where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers meet on the high swing. At sunset, the shimmering glow of the evening mist cast a magical shadow over the river, providing the creators with amazing filming materials and a wellspring of inspiration.
Dinner with a River View: A Spark of Creative Collision
In the evening, the creators headed back to the W Plus Hotel for a river-view dinner at Jinglang Restaurant on the 5th floor. The view of the river was simply breathtaking, with no obstructions in sight. When they opened the window, it was like watching a romantic encounter between the Jialing River and the Yangtze River. The lights on the other side twinkled like stars falling into the Milky Way. While savoring their meal, the creators got down to business, discussing the script, dividing up the tasks for filming and editing, and making arrangements for the filming equipment and crew. The discussion, which was originally supposed to end at 10:30 PM, went on until 12:30 AM because everyone was so enthusiastic and full of great ideas. Each team couldn’t wait for August 30th to arrive, eager to showcase their talents in this creative project.
